Holiday Festivities Due Downtown Saturday
holiday

Scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 7, the third annual Christmas Parade is being hosted by the Oakdale Enrichment Society and the community is encouraged to join in.

This relatively new holiday tradition for the Cowboy Capital runs the same day as the Oakdale Downtown Christmas, adding to the slate of festivities for the day and on in to the evening.

The parade will step off at 5 p.m., with line up at 4 p.m. in the city’s west end at Lee and Poplar. The entries will then run east on Poplar and continue to the heart of downtown.

All groups, families and community members are welcome to take part in the parade. There is no entry fee to participate. The event will be hosted rain or shine.

“We’re totally separate from Downtown Christmas,” OES Vice President Cher Bairos explained. “As OES we’re in charge of the parade. Tammy Blevins of London Fox will take care of the downtown event. Lloyd Stueve will be taking Santa through the parade and to the downtown event on his wagon.”

The downtown portion will see several of the shops in the East F Street and surrounding streets corridor staying open late while there will also be a variety of booths with food, beverages, merchandise and more.
