The National Weather Service in Sacramento has issued both a high wind warning and a flood watch for this region.

Affected areas for the high wind warning, in effect from 2 a.m. Sunday to 4 a.m. Monday, include the Southern Sacramento Valley, Carquinez Strait and Delta, Northern San Joaquin Valley and Motherlode Counties.

Southeast winds 30 to 45 mph with gusts 50 to 60 mph expected. Local gusts between 60 and 70 mph are possible.

Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are likely. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.

Gusty winds will spread from south to north during the day on Sunday. The strongest winds are expected to develop from mid to late Sunday morning and persist through Sunday evening.

People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches.

Also, a portion of northern California, including the Carquinez Strait and Delta, Central Sacramento Valley, Motherlode, Northeast Foothills/Sacramento Valley, Northern Sacramento Valley, Northern San Joaquin Valley and Southern Sacramento Valley will be under the flood watch from Sunday morning through late Monday night.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. Excessive runoff may result in flooding of small rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Low-water crossings may be flooded. Storm drains and ditches may become clogged with debris. Residents should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
