Executive Director Appointed For States Fire Safe Council
Stanislaus Consolidated

The California Fire Safe Council (CFSC) has announced the appointment of Ruben Grijalva to the position of Executive Director, effective April 15.

Grijalva has more than 34 years of experience in the fire service, serving most recently as Executive Director of the California Fire and Rescue Training Authority, comprised of three member agencies: California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services – Fire and Rescue Branch, Sacramento Fire Department, and the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District. He also served as Director of the Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL Fire) from 2006-2009, and State Fire Marshal from 2004-2007.

“The CFSC Board and staff welcome Ruben as Executive Director,” said Jerry Davies, board chairman. “He brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the California Fire Safe Council as California communities face critical wildfire and fire prevention issues due to the four year drought.”

“I am grateful for the opportunity to work for an organization with such an honorable mission and I look forward to helping people of California better prepare for the risk of wildfires near their homes and businesses,” Grijalva said.

Reporting to Chairman Davies and the Board, Grivalja will focus on expanding the relationships and support of CFSC grants for fire prevention programs conducted by California’s local Fire Safe Councils, fire agencies and Firewise and Fire Adapted Communities.

CFSC, a statewide non-profit organization, receives federal grants from agencies like the U.S. Forest Service and others. These funds provide grant monies to local Fire Safe Councils and other community organizations in California using the innovative online Grants Clearinghouse of the California Fire Safe Council.

The CFSC Grants Clearinghouse is an online grant application process that makes it easier to find and apply for wildfire prevention grants to support community projects. In its 12 years of grant making, it has funded over 900 grants totaling over $90 million for projects to reduce hazardous fuels, provide wildfire prevention education, create risk assessments and Community Wildfire Protection Plans.
