Free tutoring by credentialed teachers is available to students in grades 6-12 through the Lifepoint Church youth group in Oakdale on Tuesday nights. For more information, contact the Lifepoint Youth Pastor, Harlan Champoux, at 760-953-9629.

Lifepoint Church in Oakdale is offering free tutoring for struggling students in grades 6-12 in any subject with credentialed teachers and/or college students currently pursuing their credentials.

Harlan Champoux, the youth pastor at Lifepoint Church, noted the need from conversations within their youth group of students struggling with the rigors of distance learning.

Champoux said the solution became apparent, saying, “We have teachers at our church and people who want to be teachers who want to help so we started by reaching out to our youth group in mid-January.”

With a capacity of only 10 students, it’s necessary to call and reserve a spot the day before but thus far, the response has been encouraging.

“The kids in our youth group have really been helped by the tutoring class,” Champoux said.

At the same time as the tutoring class, Champoux runs a music class as well. Students looking to learn an instrument or receive in-person instruction, can sign up for the class.

While the classes are held at the Lifepoint church, there is no expectation of Bible class participation, though anyone who would like to stay for the youth group after class, is certainly welcome, Champoux said.

Classes are held every Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lifepoint Church, 120 West Ave., in Oakdale.

All classes are on a first-come, first-served basis.
