Lady Mustang golfers card outstanding campaign
1014 Twain Harte
Oakdale’s golf girls took a fun trip to Twain Harte for practice earlier this season when Oakdale Golf and Country Club was closed. Head coach Jeremy Fields said that after nine holes at Twain Harte Golf Club, they all walked over to the putt-putt course that the team rented out for their own private party and had some fun on the miniature course. From late August until now, there have been plenty of victories for the Oakdale High School varsity golf girls.

The team has compiled a 6-0 record in Valley Oak League duals, has gone 2-0 in VOL tourneys, and 3-0 at their Invitationals. Team members include Bella Cortes, Amelia Bradshaw, McKinnley Antrim, Ella Christensen, Charley Montey, Bryanna Perez, Aniston Murphy, Elyn O’Roark, Kate Oliveira, Hayden Pitassi, Jessie Silva, Eden Prather, Kora Busam.

Dating back to Aug. 27, the VOL Dual opener was a 230-329 win for Oakdale over Manteca. On Aug. 31, the team played in the 18-hole Merced Invitational, on a par 72 course at Merced Country Club. There were 22 teams and 105 players and Oakdale took first place overall with a team score of 359, paced by the second-place overall finish of Bella Cortes, who shot an 82.

On Sept. 1, Oakdale won a VOL Dual against Mountain House at Tracy Country Club, 235-312. Sept. 2 was VOL Tournament #1, 18 holes, at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Oakdale took first out of the seven teams, at 446, and Cortes was first overall with a 79; teammate Amelia Bradshaw finished second with an 81.

On Sept. 3, Oakdale defeated Sierra 227-357 in a VOL Dual.

The team then claimed the championship at the Sept. 14 Bulldog Invitational, 18 holes at Tracy Country Club, par 73, featuring 15 teams.

Action on Sept. 17 was a VOL Dual win over Patterson, 224-334, and Sept. 22 featured the VOL Tournament #2, with Oakdale once again taking first place. The 18-hole tournament saw the Lady Mustangs card a team score of 436; second place East Union came in at 567.

Scores were: Bella Cortes 80 (1st overall), Amelia Bradshaw 84 (2nd overall), Charley Montey 86 (PR- 3rd overall), Ella Christensen 92 (4th overall), McKinnley Antrim 94 (5th overall), Elyn O’Roark 97 (PR -7th overall).

“All six Oakdale golfers finished in the top seven,” said head coach Jeremy Fields.

At the Sept. 28 Yellowjacket Invitational, 18 holes at Turlock Country Club, there were 21 teams and 105 players, with Oakdale taking first with a team score of 355; Ripon was second at 391.

“This is our fourth year in a row winning this tourney,” Fields said.

On Sept. 30 it was a 228-287 win for Oakdale in a VOL Dual against East Union. They followed that up on Oct. 8 with a forfeit win over Central Catholic in a VOL Dual match, as Central did not field a full team.

“This marks the end of the regular season for the Mustangs with the VOL Championship Tourney to be held on October 15 at Micke Grove Golf Links,” Fields said.

Micke Grove is a par 72 course.

The Lady Mustangs are looking to secure their 10th straight VOL title and 10th straight undefeated season, Fields added, excluding the 2020 year with no season due to COVID.
