Fire Calls 10-21-20

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27 and 28 in Oakdale; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Oct. 13 through Monday, Oct. 19. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, OCT. 19

Crews conducted weekly apparatus and equipment checks.

9:27 p.m. – Modesto Engine 28, Engine 27, Engine 30 and Battalion 5 responded for reports of a vehicle crash into a tree with a subject pinned in at Orange Blossom Road and Rodden Road. Crews arrived on scene with Oak Valley Ambulance. The driver was extricated by crews and found to have minor injuries. Oak Valley transported to a local hospital. CHP is investigating.

 

SUNDAY, OCT. 18

9:24 a.m. – Engine 28 was dispatched to a kitten stuck in an engine compartment in front of Savemart. E28 arrived at scene and met up with the reporting party. The reporting party stated that they didn’t know who the kitten belonged to. E28 spent several minutes getting the kitten out of the engine compartment, at one point, 28 had to remove a plastic wheel well to reach it. The kitten appeared to be uninjured. Once it was extricated, E28 met with Oakdale PD and delivered the kitten to the Oakdale Animal Shelter.

5:35 p.m. – Modesto Engine 30, Water Rescue 28 and Battalion 5 responded code 2 to Woodward Reservoir for persons stranded on a boat. Crews arrived on scene and located a boat that had engine problems and needed a tow back to the ramp. Boat 28 checked and found no injuries and provided a tow.

6:21 p.m. – Modesto and Stanislaus units responded to the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry for the report of two stranded kayakers. Stanislaus Sheriff Air 111 was overhead and located the victims. Air 111 directed the boats to their location. Water Rescue 29 and Water Rescue 26 were able to rescue the two who were uninjured.

 

SATURDAY, OCT. 17

Companies participated in multi-company training at the RFTC.

Modesto Fire, Ceres Fire and Stanislaus Consolidated Fire companies participated in a post-incident critique of the Bunker Structure fire that occurred on August 30, 2020.

5:23 p.m. – No location listed; Engine 27, Engine 28 and BC5 responded to a reported motor vehicle accident. Engine 27 arrived to find two vehicles involved and began investigating for injuries. Crews assisted with patient care and one subject was transported from the scene to a local emergency room. CHP investigating.

 

FRIDAY, OCT. 16

10:03 a.m. – Water Rescue 28, Stanislaus Water Rescue 26, Engine 30 and BC5 responded to a possible water rescue on the Stanislaus River near Knights Ferry. Crews extensively searched the river below Knights Ferry and were unable to locate two occupants from a kayak. The occupants were later contacted via cell phone and were located safely off the water. US Army Corp personnel assisted in the search efforts.

11 a.m. – Brush 29 responded with Cal Fire TCU to a vegetation fire near Highway 4 and Milton Road. The fire was quickly contained at approximately 10 acres of grass.

 

TUESDAY, OCT. 13

Haz-Mat Team training was conducted at Oakdale Irrigation District. The OID Safety Coordinator reviewed their aquatic and surface weed spray techniques, hazards, MSDS, product storage and emergency plan.
