Young Scientists To Compete

Approximately 300 elementary school children from throughout the region, including Oakdale’s Magnolia and Sierra View elementary schools, are gearing up for the 16th Annual Elementary Science Olympiad – slated for Saturday, April 20 from 8a.m. – 3p.m. at Hickman Elementary School, 13306-A Fourth St., Hickman. Admission is free.

Sponsored by the Stanislaus County Office of Education (SCOE) and supported by the Education Foundation of Stanislaus County and major sponsor JS West and Companies, many of the events are open to the public beginning at 9 a.m. This year, spectator events include: Bridge Building, Can Race, Catapult – Tennis Ball, Straw Egg Drop and Water Rockets. The awards ceremony is slated to begin at 2:p.m. in the Hickman School lawn area with entertainment provided by Liquidd DJ.

Other elementary schools scheduled to participate are: Agnes Baptist, Bernard Hughes, Chatom, Denair Academics, Dennis Earl, Hart Ransom, Hart Ransom Charter, Hickman Charter, Julien, Our Lady of Fatima, St. Stanislaus, Stanislaus Union and Walnut.
