SOS Fundraiser This Saturday

The SOS (Save Oakdale Schools) family fun walk/run is taking place this Saturday, March 9 at 8:30 a.m., starting at Cloverland Elementary School. The fundraiser is a fun event that promotes fitness and raises money for Oakdale Joint Unified School District schools that are trying to make do with less because of budget cuts.

For $25, participants can participate in the one mile or 5K race, or both. Registration forms may be picked up at any OJUSD elementary school or the district office, or visit the district or school websites for online forms. Search “SOS Run” on active.com for online registration.

Race packet pick-up is at Cloverland on Friday, March 8 from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., or on Saturday the day of the race from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m., and registrations are also accepted at those times.

The one mile and 5K races start and end at Cloverland Elementary School. The 5K race route is a course that runs through the Burchell Hill area.

First through third place winners are honored by gender for each race in 11 age brackets, as well as overall race winners by gender. The fastest mile time is 5:43:00 and the fastest 5K time currently stands at 18:00:80.

The goal is to have 450 participants this year and to raise $15,000 that will go into Oakdale classrooms through the Oakdale Educational Foundation’s teacher grant program.

Refreshments are offered for race participants, including pastries, fruit and nuts, water and sports drinks. There is also a water station halfway along the route.

To support this event, people may register for the race or sponsor a student. A donation in any amount would help the event be more successful.
