Oakdale High School Drama Club, under the Direction of Bryan Mills along with seniors Kalli Ford and Shauna Hodge, will present their version of Pocahontas this weekend at the Oakdale High School Theater on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the business office or at the door if available.

John Smith, played by Senior Nick McElmury, leads a rag-tag band of English sailors and soldiers to the New World to plunder its riches for England – or, more precisely, for Governor Ratcliffe, portrayed by seasoned actor Connor Sparks, who comes along for the ride.

Meanwhile in this “New World,” Chief Powhatan, played by Fernando Cruz, has pledged his daughter, Pocahontas, played by the talented singer and actress Carolina Rios, to be married to the village’s greatest warrior. Pocahontas, however, has other ideas. She has seen a vision of a spinning arrow, a vision she believes tells her change is coming. Her life does indeed change when the English ship lands near her village. Between Ratcliffe, who believes the “savages” are hiding the gold he expected to be plentiful, and Powhatan, who believes these pale newcomers will destroy their land, Smith and Pocahontas have a difficult time preventing all-out war and saving their love for each other.

Pocahontas brings entertainment for the whole family and is a wonderful treat for kids.

Other major parts in the production are played by Marian Pagaduan who portrays Grandmother Willow, Kocoum played by Tyler Rinna, and Nakoma played by Madison Drobnick. New to the OHS stage are student comedians, Aaron Green, Jack Ford, Ryan Hodge, and George Hakata. These new faces bring a refreshing twist to this timeless tale of humanity and love. Other major roles include actors Sofia Rios, Austin Davis, Jaquelyn LeCouve, Katelyn Lignowski, and Ethan Richison.

Student ensemble members are Kyle Erikson, Jacob LeCouve, Sadie Smith, Alejandro Santos, Patrick McIntyre, Serilla Chavez, Jarod LeCouve, Olivia Becerra, Wiley Taylor, Estefany Castro, Brianne Cordano, Juliana Jackson, Emily Hudson, Alexandria Ibarra, Kirk Barney, Katie Schwandt, Madelyn Dougherty, Maria Marin, Claire Halverson, Olivia Garcia, Jessica Traub, Sarah Barragan, Carlos Martinez, Jessica Hatfield, Laniyah Dean-Taylor, Gabby Bacerra, and Ceasar Olmedo.
