The Oakdale High School Academic Decathlon team has wrapped up another successful year. In March, the OHS team traveled to Sacramento for the 16th consecutive year as the Stanislaus County representative.

The team of nine was in attendance along with second place county team Hughson High and over 700 other students representing 70 other California schools. Oakdale continued to place in the Top 30 overall and beat Hughson once again.

“My main goal was to beat Hughson again and we did that,” Coach Dee Hawksworth said of the state competition, adding that the OHS team led the opposing county team by 5,500 points.

“I was thrilled,” she continued. “Many of the students achieved personal bests or improvements on their scores. We also bumped up three spots in the overall ranking.”

Medals were awarded to the following team members: Jared Medeiros, silver medals in Art and Economics; Michael Winders, bronze in Economics and Taryn Lane with a team high score as well as earning gold medals in the categories of Art and Science and a bronze in Social Science.
