Average gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 12.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.32/gallon as of Aug. 10, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto.
Prices in Modesto are 12.4 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.14/gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 5.1 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $5.27 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $4.79/gallon while the most expensive was $6.09, a difference of $1.30/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.17 while the highest was $9.79, a difference of $5.62/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 10.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.94/gallon. The national average is up 9.5 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 85.6 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back five years show the highest price was on Aug. 10, 2022 when the Modesto price averaged $5.10 per gallon and the U.S. average was $3.96 per gallon. Lowest price for Modesto was $4.18 per gallon on Aug. 10, 2025 and the lowest U.S. average of $3.08 per gallon was recorded on that same date.
“Average gasoline prices declined in 47 states over the last week while diesel fell in 39, with the national average price of gasoline posting a double-digit drop per gallon,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.27/gallon, down 11.4 cents from last week’s $5.38; Oakland - $5.51, down 5.7 cents from $5.57; and San Jose - $5.51, down 7.9 cents from last week’s $5.59/gallon.
