Looking to expand their membership, Cub Scout Pack 43 in Oakdale is putting together a special event for Wednesday, Sept. 24.
“The pack is working hard to rebuild and grow after being paused during COVID,” said Scout leader Anna Wooten. “To help introduce more families to Scouting, we’re hosting a fun, free community event.”
The ‘Rain Gutter Regatta’ will be hosted at 297 Gilbert Ave., Oakdale – also known as ‘The Scout Shack’ – and will run from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24.
The event is open to all kids in kindergarten through fifth grade, boys and girls, and their families.
“It’s a hands-on, exciting way to introduce youth to Cub Scouting,” Wooten added.
The event will give prospective Cub Scouts and their families a chance to build a mini boat on site with materials provided by Cub Scout Pack 43, then enjoy racing those boats down water tracks for the ‘regatta’ competition.
“Meet our Cub Scout leaders and families,” Wooten said. “Enjoy a fun, family-friendly evening.”
No prior Scouting experience is necessary.
“We believe this event will be a wonderful way to get local families excited about Scouting – and ultimately help Pack 43 continue to grow and thrive,” Wooten explained. “Every bit of awareness makes a huge difference in helping more kids discover the adventure of Cub Scouting.”
Cub Scout Pack 43 meets regularly on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.; upcoming activities in the next few weeks include National Public Lands Day on Sept. 27, Big Trees Campout Oct. 24 through 26, and Trick or Treat at Belmare on Oct. 30.
