Using Facebook to make contact with his victims, a 20-year-old Oakdale man has been arrested in connection with the possible sexual assault of a minor.
San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested Donnell Young, 20, of Oakdale on Friday, Feb. 3 on allegations of sexually assaulting a minor and are continuing their investigation into his use of the Internet to search for potential victims.
“The suspect met the victim on Facebook using an alias,” noted the police report. “The suspect builds a rapport with his victims and then introduces a fictitious friend who saw victims’ pictures and wants to meet the girls.”
Deputy Les Garcia, the department’s Public Information Officer, said the suspect convinces the young girls to meet with him and sexually assaults them. He also has requested nude photos of them and has ‘sexted’ with the victims. Garcia said the incident highlights the need for parents to talk to their children about the social networking sites and inherent dangers in using them.
A review of records indicated that the suspect, who makes contact with his victims by using the aliases of Noah Camacho, Andrew or Alex, has been in contact with numerous females in this manner.
Anyone who has been contacted by the suspect is asked to provide that information to Detective Renberg at 209-468-4424 and refer to case no. 12-1743.
Authorities said at least one victim is known in the San Joaquin County area, and there could be more in surrounding counties.
The investigation is ongoing.
Young was arrested at Modesto Junior College, where he is a student, charged with three felonies including rape, and authorities said the incident in question involved a 14-year-old girl.
A scheduled Monday arraignment in San Joaquin County Superior Court was postponed as the suspect’s family seeks to arrange legal counsel.
