The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 19 through Monday, July 25. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JULY 25

8:22 a.m. – Engine 27, E28, Q22 and Battalion Chief 5 responded to an injury vehicle accident with pin-in. E27 was first on scene at the intersection of Highway 108/Crane Road. Two mini vans were involved with one van on its side. E27 confirmed no one was trapped. Two patients were transported to local hospitals.

4:59 p.m. – E26, Water Rescue 28, WR24, and BC2 were dispatched to the report of a drowning victim. E26 made access from the south side and found a bystander who had pulled a 10-year-old male from the river and was performing CPR. E26 took over resuscitation efforts, and the child was carried to the ambulance and transported to the hospital. While in transport the child did regain ROSC (Return Of Spontaneous Circulation; sustained heart rhythm).

 

SUNDAY, JULY 24

No times listed:

E26, Q22, E7 and E9 met at Station 17 and performed some hose evolutions.

E28, E27, E29, E26, E23, Q22, BC5, BC2 and FIU4 responded to a working structure fire in the 400 block of Valley View in Oakdale. Crews arrived and found a detached garage fully involved with exposures threatened. Fire was extinguished quickly without extension into the exposures. Cause of the fire is under investigation.

 

THURSDAY, JULY 21

Crews trained with probationary firefighters on various skill sets.

Crews spent the morning on equipment maintenance and clean up.

 

WEDNESDAY, JULY 20

Crews trained with probationary firefighters on various skill sets.

Paramedics rotated through the Modesto Center Plaza for a cadaver lab.

3:44 p.m. – E26, WR 28, WR 24 and BC 5 were dispatched to the report of a subject in the water in distress at Jacob Myers Park. Contact was made with a group of subjects in the water, one that could not swim. Without launching the boats, crews were able to escort them to safety.

3:59 p.m. – A full vegetation response was sent to the end of S. Reinway in Waterford for a vegetation fire. On arrival there was fire on both sides of the river. Numerous resources were called including mutual aid from outside MST to both sides of the incident, two divisions were established. The fire on the south side spotted in several different areas throughout the Frantz nursery property, one fire was well established in heavy vegetation beneath a residence, despite direct flame impingement on a structure, crews were able to keep it out of the residence. The fire along the river was burning in very heavy vegetation, chain saws were required to cut their way in to establish control lines. In all, two to three acres were burned.
