The investigation continues into a double homicide between Oakdale and Riverbank, with the discovery of two bodies on property in the 5900 block of Claribel Road on Thursday morning, Oct. 12.

Stanislaus County sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene when a man stopped at the Riverbank Police Services station in downtown Riverbank, indicating a family member who lives on site reported finding a body early Thursday. A second body was also later discovered.

The two victims were identified as Alfredo Mercado Lomeli, 32, and Martin Alvarez Jr., 24, both of Oakdale. Their identities were released on Friday. Authorities said the men lived on the property.

Sheriff’s Department spokesman Deputy Royjindar Singh said the two victims were found near a shop on the property, behind the home. The location is off Langworth Road, east of Riverbank.

Authorities said it remains an ongoing investigation. Singh said the cause of death was not being released; at press time they had not identified any suspects in the case. Authorities were also looking into the possibility that a marijuana grow discovered on the property may have been a factor in the crime.

Singh said anyone that may be able to offer information is asked to contact lead detective Marissa Wyatt at 209-525-7091.
