Following an investigation of several days, a New York man was taken into custody on fraud charges by the Oakdale Police Department.

In a post on the department’s Facebook page, Oakdale Police reminded residents to “Beware of skimming devices that can steal your personal information.”

The post also indicated that, with the help of the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and City of Turlock - Turlock Police Department, the 55-year-old man was arrested for placing skimming devices on several area ATMs.

Local police said on Monday, Jan. 1, Oakdale Police Department officers discovered the device on the Bank of America ATM on East F Street and contacted allied agencies for assistance and to get the word out. The same suspect was caught placing a device on an ATM in Turlock.

“OPD issued a warrant, and thanks to help from our partner agencies, Enache Sandumarian of New York was arrested and booked into the county jail on felony fraud charges,” the Facebook post continued.

Police issued the following reminders to residents of the community, designed to protect their credit card information at ATMs or gas pumps:

• Cover the keypad when entering your PIN.

• Monitor your bank statements regularly.

• Report any suspicious devices to Oakdale PD.
