Spring Sports Have Arrived On Oakdale High Campus
OHS Mustangs

With the month of March arriving, Oakdale High School enters its final stretch of the school year. Spring sports are revving up, on and off campus. Mustang sports will include baseball, softball, swimming, boys golf, track and field and boys tennis. Scrimmages have taken place for softball, baseball, tennis, golf and track and field.

 

BASEBALL

Oakdale’s varsity baseball team welcomes back Chris Henry as head coach. The team will host Atwater on Thursday, March 5 at 3:30 p.m. in a non-conference game. Friday, March 6 the boys will host Sonora and on Tuesday, March 10 Oakdale heads to Merced. Wednesday, March 18 Oakdale opens up Valley Oak League play with a home-and-away series against Kimball. Oakdale will host the Jaguars on March 18 and will travel on Friday, March 20. Both games are scheduled for 4 p.m. The Mustang freshman and junior varsity teams have new coaches as Robbie Steves will serve as junior varsity coach and Stefan Aguilar takes over as freshman head coach.

 

BOYS GOLF

Lee McGhee and Tim Meyer return as coaches for the boys golf team. Oakdale won the Valley Oak League title last season and look to have another big run in 2020. After a pair of scrimmages, Oakdale traveled to Modesto on Monday, March 2 for the first Valley Oak League Tournament of the season. The 18-hole tournament took place at Dryden Park Golf Course following press time. Thursday, March 5 the team will travel to Whitney for a non-conference match at Catta Verdera Golf Course and Country Club. Monday, March 16 Oakdale will travel to Turlock for The Crosstown Cup at Turlock Golf Course and Country Club.

 

TRACK AND FIELD

Thursday, March 5 track and field teams will host Manteca in the Valley Oak League opener. The meet will begin at 3:30 p.m. Oakdale hosted Escalon in a scrimmage on Thursday, Feb. 27. Friday, March 13 the team will travel to Turlock for the Stanislaus County Meet scheduled for 3 p.m.

 

SOFTBALL

The returning Section Champion softball team began their season with a pair of scrimmages against Modesto and Enochs. Tuesday, March 3 the girls hosted Sheldon in a big section showdown; the game was played following press time. Oakdale will host Calaveras on Tuesday, March 10. Their week will continue on Thursday and Friday with a pair of road games. Oakdale will take on Patterson and Merced in non-conference games. The girls will return home on Monday, March 16 with a non-conference game against Franklin. All games are scheduled for 4 p.m. Larry Loger returns as head coach and Trent Merzon enters his second season with the team serving as an assistant coach.

 

SWIMMING

Friday, March 13 the Oakdale swim team dives into action when they host Ripon in VOL action. The meet is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.

Saturday, March 14 the annual March Madness Invite takes place at Oakdale High School. Over 30 schools are currently scheduled to appear. The large event is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Russ Van Cleave and his staff returns as coaches.

 

BOYS TENNIS

Grant Miller and assistant coach Zach Miller head the boys tennis team. Last season the boys finished second in sections and look to capture that blue banner this year. The team opened their season with a scrimmage against Gregori and had two non-league contests to gear up for the VOL season. Oakdale hosted East Union in the season opener on Tuesday, March 3 following press time. Thursday, March 5 Oakdale will travel to Tracy to face Kimball at 3 p.m. Oakdale will take on Manteca on the road Wednesday, March 11 at 3 p.m.
