The summer youth basketball clinic and open gym began on Tuesday, July 7 at Oakdale High School’s main gym. Kids from the ages of 8 to 13 attended the first of seven clinics and open gym. This two hour, once-a-week event is instructed by Coach Devin Ginty.

Ginty is a former University of San Diego guard, played professional basketball overseas for England, Finland, Ireland, Taiwan and China. He is now a coach for Point Loma Nazarene University.

The clinic, that’s held every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. until Aug. 18, is to help kids learn the basics of shooting, dribbling and passing while also building the participants’ mental toughness and confidence. The weekly cost for the clinic is $10 per player. Following each clinic the gym hosts a free open gym for kids of the same age group from 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.
