Volleyball Girls Dig Out Pair Of Wins

Oakdale’s varsity volleyball girls are one step closer to wining their fourth straight Valley Oak League championship.

This past week the varsity Lady Mustangs won a pair of league games on the road. The team defeated East Union 3-0 and then earned a victory over Weston Ranch 3-1. The two wins extended the team’s winning streak to 10 straight VOL victories.

On Monday, Oct. 16 the girls handled East Union in three sets, and on Wednesday, Oct. 18 the girls showed their resilience. Oakdale dropped the first set to the Weston Ranch Cougars 20-25. Oakdale bounced back with a dominant second set to win 25-12. The third set went to extras as Oakdale escaped with a 26-24 victory. The three-time defending league champions closed out the match with a 25-22 dramatic win. No stats were provided for the road trip.

On Monday, Oct. 23 the team honored its 10 seniors for Senior Night 2017. The ceremony took place prior to their showdown against Central Catholic. The game took place following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale wraps up the regular season at Lathrop on Wednesday, Oct. 25 with the game set to begin at 7 p.m.

Playoffs brackets for volleyball have yet to be determined.

The junior varsity and freshman teams will also be in action this week. Both teams hosted Central Catholic on Monday, Oct. 23 and are going to wrap up their seasons on the road at Lathrop on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Freshmen take the court at 4 p.m. and the junior varsity game is scheduled for 5 p.m.
