Joanne passed away peacefully with family by her side at Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, CA. She died of natural causes as she had been in ill health for several years. She was 86 years old. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Howard (HJ) and Ethel Lewis, her brothers Tom, Bud and John and her sisters June Jensen and Doris Gordon as well as her husband Bill Hawks and previous husband Gordon Corrigan.

She leaves behind her six children, Karen (Greg) Van Sandt, Kurt (Denise) Corrigan, Marilyn (Paul) Wagoner, Laurette (Doug) Mathies, Pat (Jill) Corrigan and Brian Corrigan. She also had 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Joanne’s career as a mom was determined at a young age in life, having five kids by the age of 22 and raising six children total. She later worked in the medical transcription field and ended her working career by retiring from the Stanislaus County Welfare Department.

Joanne loved Lake Tahoe where she and her children spent the summer months at her sister’s cabin swimming, hiking and sunbathing.

She was probably a “foodie” before the phrase became popular, albeit American cuisine was her favorite. She also had a sweet tooth for another American favorite, See’s Candy.

Joanne will be missed by all who knew her but, most of all, her family will never forget the impact she had on our lives that made us who we are today.

When Jesus comes, all negotiations are off the table. We love you Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great-Great Grandma.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 at Burwood Cemetery in Escalon at 10 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at Belmare Senior Living, 1450 West F St. in Oakdale at 1 p.m. There will be a dedication of the Belmare Senior Living Library in Joanne’s honor. If you would like to attend the celebration, please RSVP by calling or texting 209-707-6155.
