While there isn’t a formal scheduled Memorial Day Ceremony planned locally at the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, there will be an effort over the weekend to decorate the graves of veterans buried there.

The goal is to make sure each veteran interred at the cemetery at 701 E. J St., Oakdale, has a small American flag placed on their grave in time for the holiday observance on Monday, May 29.

Spokesperson Melinda Owen said the effort will get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 27 with several local Boy Scouts scheduled to be on hand. Some members of the Oakdale Lions Club may be in attendance as well and Owen said any local residents that want to help are welcome to take part.

The flags will be provided and there will be information showing where the graves of veterans are located. There will also be beverages and snacks provided for volunteers.

Again, anyone interested in helping place the flags are encouraged to be at the cemetery on Saturday morning to assist.
