A Tuesday morning lockdown at Fair Oaks Elementary School in Oakdale on Oct. 6 was initiated after Oakdale Police received a report regarding possible threats of violence in the 200 block of North Oak Avenue.
Officers responded to the scene just before 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6 after a caller reported that his uncle had made suicidal statements and also threatened to kill another family member who lives outside the Oakdale area.
Because of the nature of the reported threats and the proximity of the home to the Fair Oaks campus, police recommended that the school go on lockdown as a precautionary measure.
Officers were able to establish a perimeter around the home and attempted to make contact with the homeowner. They also deployed an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, UAV, to assist with assessing the residence and surrounding area as part of the continuing investigation. The Stanislaus County Mental Health Mobile Crisis Response Team was also brought in to assist.
Ultimately, officers were able to make contact with the homeowner, who they said was cooperative and allowed police to conduct a security check of both himself and the home.
Officers determined there was no immediate threat to the school or surrounding community.
Further investigation, police said, indicated that the information initially provided to officers by the caller was inaccurate. Based on the results of their investigation, officers also determined there was no credible threat requiring further police action.
Police noted that the precautionary measures taken during the incident were implemented to ensure the safety of nearby residents, students, and school staff while officers investigated the reported threats.
