It’s shaping up to be a special event; Oakdale’s inaugural Fall Jubilee and Steak Cook-Off is being put on by the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce and arrives in town this weekend. All events are planned at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds on the east end of town.
There will be free admission to the family-friendly Fall Jubilee at the rodeo grounds on Saturday, Oct. 10 including a kids bicycle rodeo, and a free kids zone with games, face painting and bounce houses, characters, and the ‘touch a truck’ with emergency response vehicles. Also featured will be more than two dozen vendors, musical entertainment, a beer booth, food trucks, a full bar, vintage truck and tractor show, with the event running from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Saturday will also include the steak cook-off, with a panel of judges ready to sample the grilled steaks with prizes for the top three competitors. The steaks are not being served to the public, just to the panel of judges that will rate them and determine the winner.
“We do have five cookers,” Oakdale Chamber CEO Cher Bairos said of this inaugural steak grilling cook off. Awards are to be presented at 5:30 p.m.
“We are going to have DJ Melo, Riley Miller will also be on stage, Weekend at Jimmy’s and then Valley Oak School of Dance will be doing their dances,” Bairos added of the wide variety of entertainment that will fill the rodeo grounds throughout the day on Saturday.
Miller will be on stage a couple of times, starting at 1 p.m. and then breaking for the Valley Oak School of Dance performance from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Miller returns until 4 p.m., when Weekend at Jimmy’s takes over, performing until about 6 p.m., with a brief break for the steak cook-off awards presentation.
There is a $5 cash parking fee and entry to the Fall Jubilee and Steak Cook-Off will be off D Street only, at the back entrance to the rodeo grounds. Service dogs only will be allowed.
“We will have a full bar, the Saddle Club is doing a full bar,” Bairos added, “and Dying Breed will be doing the beer on Saturday.”
This is the first year the Chamber is putting on the Fall Jubilee but they plan to make it an annual event.
“We’re feeling good; it’s busy, it’s a lot but we’re working with a lot of different non-profits,” Bairos said of the Chamber coordinating the festivities.
Chamber Marketing/Membership Specialist Bri Swan also said there are plenty of sponsors that have come on board to help make the event a reality. She said they have joined in at a variety of levels.
