A heat advisory will be in effect for the region from 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 through 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.

High temperatures of 97 to 102 degrees and low temperatures of 65 to 75 are expected, with widespread moderate heat risk and areas of major heat risk.

The central and southern Sacramento Valley, northern San Joaquin Valley, Delta and Carquinez Strait, Foothills, and portions of the Coast Range are all included in the advisory.

Hot temperatures may cause heat illnesses, especially to anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.

The hottest temperatures and areas of major heat risk are expected to occur on Thursday. Warmest overnight lows are expected in the Sierra foothills thermal belts.

Residents are advised to take these precautionary measures: drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
