The last productions for this summer are on the schedule at Hutton’s Hamlet in Oakdale and, according to spokesman Richard Hutton, “the arrangement is unlike anything we’ve done before.”

Unhappily Ever After and The Unscary Ghost are two separate one-act plays that will be performed in the same showing for all three performances, one on Friday, July 29 and two on Saturday, July 30. Showtimes are 7 p.m. Friday; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday.

“Unhappily Ever After will be the first play put on before intermission, and The Unscary Ghost will be performed after intermission,” Hutton added. “Only one set of tickets will go on sale for each showing and we’re hoping the ticket purchasers will stay for both plays.”

Following is a brief synopsis for each production.

Unhappily Ever After: A counselor opens an office to see how various fairy tale characters are getting along. He quickly discovers that nobody has lived “happily ever after” at all. Sleeping Beauty will do nothing but nap, the Frog Prince refuses to give up his amphibian ways, and nothing will pry Cinderella away from her beloved cinders. The counselor sets about making everything right again, with equally disastrous results. A fractured fairy tale with fun music and lots of silliness.

The Unscary Ghost: When the Otis family moves into the old Victorian, they soon learn the house is haunted. But nobody in this jaded, modern family finds this ghost frightening. The ghost, named Simon Carter, is humiliated and frustrated by his attempts to live up to his assigned task of frightening people, while the family alternately taunts and tries to exploit him, even trying to get a spot on the hit TV show, America’s Most Haunted. Only Ginny, the oldest daughter, seems to care for or understand Simon. Can she help him find peace?
