e soccer

Coming off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Rio Americano in the Section finals this past week, Oakdale’s Lady Mustangs need to power it back up.

The girls, ranked number eight, go on the road to play top ranked University in San Francisco in the CIF NorCal Division III tournament on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Game time is 6 p.m. at University, which claimed the North Coast Section blue banner with a 1-0 win over Marin Catholic. University comes in with six game winning streak and improved to 18-1-4 on the year with the title win. Oakdale now stands at 18-7-3.

The Oakdale varsity girls will have their work cut out for them; after being shut out by Rio Americano, they now face a team in University that has outscored its opponents by a 74-15 margin this season.

University went 9-0-1 in league play in their Bay Counties West division, first place, while Oakdale was 6-2-2 in the Valley Oak League, also finishing in first place.

The host Red Devils look to keep their winning streak going as they host the opening round DIII NorCal action, while Oakdale hopes to turn the tables and take the road victory.

Regional semifinal action is set for Thursday, Feb. 29.
