The Stanislaus County Sheriff's Office and Fire Department responded to the San Joaquin River near 8622 Dos Rios Monday afternoon, April 30 for a 17-year-old male in need of assistance. The teen was swimming with friends when he began having problems. A friend attempted to help him get to the river bed, but could not hold onto him. Both the Sheriff's and Fire Department are attempting to locate the teen's body with the use of the dive team. The teen was last seen floating north along the San Joaquin River.

The river is running swiftly, the clarity is murky and the temperature is brisk. Water officials recommend staying out of the rivers at this time, but if people plan to recreate in the water, make plans to wear a life jacket.

The teen's friends as well as the teen were all Modesto High School seniors, said they often swam in that spot when it was warm.
