Relay Season Starts Up

Oakdale Relay For Life 2015 is on the schedule and the official ‘kickoff’ event is set for Thursday, Oct. 16.

There could be changes coming to the structure of the signature fundraising event for the American Cancer Society, and those possible changes will be part of the discussion at the kickoff.

Relay officials said there will be an opportunity for those attending the Thursday kickoff to vote on the possibility of changing the time structure from the current 24 hours to either a six- to eight-hour event or one covering a 12- to 18-hour time frame. All participants who attend will have a say in the time structure.

This year’s theme for Relay For Life will be the ‘80s, as the event itself celebrates its 30th anniversary. All planning to attend the kickoff are encouraged to dress in their best ‘80s attire for the chance to win prizes.

The kickoff will be at the Gene Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., Oakdale.

Anyone interested in learning more about the event are welcome to attend and organizers are hoping all the teams will also return from last year.
