Oak Summit Assembly #128, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, in Knights Ferry, recently attended its annual convention in Fresno, March 19 through 22, and helped present over $68,000 to the Bay Area Cancer Connections.
The Bay Area Cancer Connections was chosen as the State Service Project by the organization’s Grand Worthy Advisor, Colleen Penaluna, of Roseville. This non-profit organization provides support and resources to those affected by breast and ovarian cancer at no cost to the recipient. California Rainbow Girls have held various fundraisers since May of 2015 in order to make this generous donation.
The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls is an international Masonic youth group for girls ages 11 through 20. No Masonic affiliation is required to join. The Order fosters a solid foundation in the lives of young women by promoting community service, leadership, character building, public speaking, and lifelong friendships.
“The girls of our assembly had so much fun at our annual convention,” said Assembly Mother Advisor Bonnie Witzke. “We learned so much and made friends we would otherwise not have had the opportunity to meet. We also attended the carnival/dance that happens every Saturday night at Grand Assembly. We enjoyed snacks, karaoke, carnival games and of course a dance where all of California Rainbow participated.”
While attending Grand Assembly, the Oak Summit Assembly along with three other assemblies in the district received the best overall Official Visit of the Grand Worthy Advisor for last year. Oak Summit’s Official Visit was located in Oakdale at the Junior High Gymnasium.
The local Rainbow Girls recently also had a membership party in Modesto at McHenry Bowl, with several potential members in attendance. Current members got to eat pizza, bowl and share their beloved organization with other girls their age.
“Our assembly will be welcoming new friends to our group on May 11 and we are also having a pancake breakfast at Applebee’s in Riverbank on April 16,” said Witzke.
The pancake breakfast tickets are $6 each for the Saturday, April 16 event, which will run from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. The tickets are $6 each. For breakfast tickets or more information on Oak Summit Assembly #128, contact Witzke at (209) 681-7112 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
