Market Gears Up For Summer Run

The Oakdale Farmers Market is seeing a few changes this year. In addition to moving the Market to Wednesday nights and extending the hours just a bit, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., visitors will notice a huge change when they visit. The closure of E Street will allow market goers to safely browse all that the market has to offer. With this small closure it allowed organizers to move things around and get produce stands and other food offerings out of the sun.

The first Farmers Market of the season will be Wednesday, June 4 and will feature an Heirloom Gardening Demonstration and recognize Ice Tea Week, with different varieties to sample.

June 11 will be senior coupon day and the market runs through Aug. 27.

Organizers added that the produce area has grown and that the focus is on getting good quality food at the market. Everything from heirloom and organic vendors, to the certified vendors of the past will be available this year. In addition to more vendors, attendees can watch demonstrations on everything from how to make cheese to how to grow heirloom vegetables.

At the food court this year there will be picnic style seating, with umbrellas for shade. Even the kids will have kid size picnic tables and mini umbrellas, and while enjoying a meal, market goers will be treated to the sounds of local talent, from high school groups to solo artists and more.

Also new to the market this year is the Artist Corner, where youngsters can do projects, and local artists will have pieces for display and sale.

Young Entrepreneur booths will feature youthful vendors and merchandise this year will range from clothing, plants, jewelry, soaps, oils, nuts and more.
