A head-on collision that occurred at 5:40 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, sent one individual to the hospital via a Medi-Flight helicopter.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred on Highway 108 at Kennedy Road in Knights Ferry that sent both drivers to the hospital.
CHP Officer Chuck Leon said witnesses reported that a gold Honda was travelling eastbound and passing vehicles at a curve in the roadway. A blue Chevrolet Trailblazer travelling westbound had to take evasive action to avoid colliding with the Honda and struck a brown Chevrolet pickup truck going eastbound. The impact from the crash caused one of the vehicles to go down an embankment. The Honda continued east on Highway 108.
The roadway was closed as emergency personnel attended to the victims and authorities investigated the accident. The two involved vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
The male driver from the pickup truck suffered major injuries that required him to be taken to Memorial Hospital in Modesto by helicopter. The female driver of the Trailblazer was taken by ambulance to Memorial.
The highway was reopened about 7:15 a.m.
