Community Rallying Around Injured Coach

A Friday night fundraiser in Oakdale, set for April 28, will help raise money to offset medical expenses for local youth and high school soccer coach Hector Padilla, seriously injured in a car accident earlier this month.

Organizers said the Hector Padilla Inaugural Alumni All-Star Soccer Game will be played at Oakdale High School, 739 W. G St., Oakdale and the evening will also include a variety of prize drawings, silent auction opportunities, entertainment, food and fun. Money raised will help the Padilla family and others involved in the accident on their road to recovery.

Teams are being sought to participate and individual players can sign up as well; there is no entrance fee but donations are being accepted for the cause. All family members are encouraged to attend, whether they are coming in to play soccer or just cheer on the teams.

Gates at the high school will open at 5 p.m. and the first kick-off for games is set for 6 p.m.

Along with players to participate, organizers are looking for volunteers to sell food, staff the raffle tables and man the front gate. The event is scheduled to run until 9 p.m.
