Oakdale will cut the ribbon and let the masses in to the new Oakdale Community Park on Saturday.

The park along South Yosemite Avenue will be the site of a grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 16, according to Event Chairperson Amy Velasco.

“They want everybody to gather at the central gate on South Yosemite, then when the ribbon is cut, they can go in,” Velasco said of the 11 a.m. ribbon cutting.

Also on the schedule are a formal dedication ceremony with guest speakers, food trucks will be available throughout the day with a variety of offerings, and there will be several musical groups on hand to perform.

With a portion of the park dedicated to skaters, organizers said there will be a skateboarding demonstration with professional skaters. A basketball game pitting local police officers and firefighters is planned and a ‘Movie under the Stars’ will be shown to cap off the day’s festivities.

Musical entertainment is scheduled to include the Oakdale Community Band, The Hoots, Remedy, Tony does Elvis, Mel Sanguinetti and Friends, and Alex Lucero and Live Again.

Velasco said organizers are hoping to see a big turnout, as the new park is officially dedicated and opened for use.
