Arrest Made In Afternoon Stabbing
Oakdale police

Oakdale Police were called to the scene of a stabbing of a 25-year-old man at a convenience store located in the 900 block of S. Yosemite Avenue on Friday, Jan. 14. Police later arrested the female suspect walking away from the scene and, with the use of a police canine, located the knife used to commit the assault.

Oakdale Police Sergeant Joe Carrillo said units responded to the call of the stabbing at the Tiger Express Mini Mart around 1:30 in the afternoon. Upon arrival officers located the victim who had a stab wound to the back side of his torso area. Police learned the victim’s girlfriend, Lacy Marie Young-Adams, 25, had stabbed him during an argument that had started when they were driving from Waterford. Young-Adams had left the area before officers were on scene.

The victim was treated by emergency personnel for the stab wound and transported by ambulance to Memorial Hospital in Modesto. The man was treated and later released that afternoon.

During the investigation, Officer Blake Ebbert located a woman matching Young-Adams’ description walking north on S. Yosemite Avenue and after identifying her, placed her under arrest for the incident. Young-Adams did not have a knife when she was stopped.

Sergeant Carrillo said Police Canine Cruze was deployed to track Young-Adams’ path in order to find the weapon and the knife used was found along her trail from the convenience store.

“It was a very good use of the dog since it happened at a busy time of day,” Carrillo said. “Situations like this are very important to find the weapon.”

Sergeant Carrillo said that the area was heavily travelled and with the time of day, made it imperative that the weapon not be left behind to be found later becoming a safety hazard.

“With the pedestrian traffic and customers, we preserved the area and crime scene as best we could,” Carrillo added.

Young-Adams, a transient, was booked into Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder and is being held on $500,000 bail.

Cruze, a German Shepherd-Belgium Malinois mix, is one of two police canines on the Oakdale Police Department, both due to donations in 2013 and 2014 from Jeff Steves and Steves’ Chevrolet.
