Blue Star Moms Seek Donations For Soldiers

The local Mid-Cal Blue Star Moms organization is hard at work, getting ready to send packages to service members who will be away from home for the holidays.

“We are collecting donations now through December, with our first packages being packed on Dec. 1, and through the middle of December,” explained Mid-Cal member Charilyn Damigo. “We are also accepting names for any active duty troops who will not be home for Christmas; it does not matter if they are serving stateside or overseas.”

This year, she added, the organization would especially appreciate donations of coffee, hot drink mixes, and non-perishable food items.

“Each package costs approximately $16 to mail, so we also accept tax-deductible monetary donations to help with postage and other expenses,” Damigo said.

Monetary donations can be made through their website, www.midcalbluestarmoms.org or mailed to their post office box, PO Box 1745, Oakdale, CA 95361.

The group has members from Riverbank, Oakdale, Escalon and beyond and are seeking donations from throughout the region to help make the holidays brighter for those serving in the military.

For more information about the effort, visit www.midcalbluestarmoms.org/care-packages. You can also call 209-336-3221 to learn more about when and where to drop off donated items.

The first Care Package ‘Packing Party’ is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1 at 840 E. F St., Oakdale, at 4 p.m.

“We will also have a potluck and a small gift exchange,” Damigo noted. “We invite mothers of active duty military or veterans, and any other military supporters, to join us at any of our events.”
