The Oakdale boys golf team won their first VOL Championship since 2012, capping the season off with a tournament victory at Diablo Grande.

For the first time since 2012, the Oakdale High School varsity boys golf team has claimed the Valley Oak League championship.

On May 1 the team took first place at the 2018 Valley Oak League Championship Tournament at Diablo Grande Golf Course in Patterson. Oakdale shot 412 as a team through 18 holes, 97 strokes better than second place East Union.

Ryan Meyer shot 77 on the day to finish third overall in the tournament. Oakdale’s individuals placed third through seven on the leader board. Max Moore (81), Calvin Reed (83), Tristan Jaramillo (85) and David Myrtakis (86) all finished in the top 10 of the tournament.

“I am very proud of this team and their accomplishments. I’ve had talented players in the past, but this team is special. They encourage and challenge one another,” said head coach Lee McGhee.

On Monday, May 7 Oakdale traveled to Roseville for the 2018 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Championship at Morgan Creek Golf Course. Action took place after The Leader’s presstime.

“The Valley Oak League is tough, but once we hit Divisionals it is a whole new season. The talent that we have in our section is fantastic,” said McGhee. “It will be fun and exciting.”
