Wins were contagious for all Spring athletes at Oakdale High during recent preseason and Valley Oak League action on their respective fields of play.

So far, so good.

Oakdale claimed victories in all six relays and cruised to a 100-66 girls win and 104-62 boys win during a Valley Oak League dual with host Ripon on Friday.

Adam Lahey led the Oakdale boys with victories in both the 200 free and 500 free. Soren Dickens (200 individual medley), Brandon Terwilliger (50 free), Will Cavanaugh (100 free) and Hank Walter (100 back) also claimed individual wins.

The Oakdale girls were paced by wins from Savannah Stender (50 free), Shelby Stender (100 free), Summer Thompson (100 back) and Stevie Cordoza (100 breast).
Track and Field

Oakdale kicked off the 2012 season with a terrific collective performance at the Stanislaus County Meet at Turlock High on Friday.

The Oakdale girls nabbed 131 points in first place while Oakdale’s boys finished a respectable fourth among the 15 competing teams. Me’che Brown, Kellie Gratigny, Justina Keith and Kim Linder finished second among all teams in the 1600 relay while Brown, Linder, Keith and Deziree Pennington ended third in the 400 relay. Brown would go on to claim fourth in both the 100 and 200 while Pennington finished fifth in the 100, third in the 200 and second in the triple jump.
Linder landed third in the 400 and fourth in the long jump while Gratigny (fourth-400, third-triple jump), Ashlyn Durham (fourth-800, seventh-1600) and Jennie Siemsen (sixth-1600, sixth-3200) proved active in several events. Macey Caris erupted for a 5 foot, 10 inch leap to win the high jump while Domi Powell was third in the high jump and seventh in the long jump.

Carly Rogers reached her new personal best with a 10-2 height to win the pole vault while Brooke Wong was fourth in the same event. Alyssa Flores was third in the discus while Hayley McIntyre ended fifth. Kelsey McIntyre landed Oakdale’s best shot put toss in third.

Oakdale’s Manny Hernandez led the Mustang boys with perhaps the best performance of the meet when he cleared a 6-6.75 mark in the high jump for a meet record and personal best.  Kyle Peterson added runner-up finishes in both the shot put and discus while Brynden McAndrews finished fourth in the pole vault. Wyatt Coffey was also sixth in the 400 and led Oakdale’s 1600 relay team of Chris Sulhoff, Joey Flores and Erick Padilla to a second place overall finish. Chris Davis ended sixth in the 200, Flores was sixth in the 300 hurdles, Mario Jiminez sixth in the 3200 and Trevor Mirrassou sixth in the 110 hurdles. Padilla and Emanuel Rodriguez tied for fifth in the 800 as well.

Oakdale wrapped the preseason with a 4-0 record after back-to-back wins over Turlock and a victory over Pitman in a span of five days.

The Mustangs edged Pitman 209-236 on March 5 at the Oakdale Golf and Country Club after two 40s from Ryan Jones and Isaac Rellamas and a 41-stroke performance by Vince Fauria. Jacob Hastert carded a 43 while Michael Tripp shot a 45.

A day later, Oakdale edged Turlock at the Turlock Golf Course in a tight 229-232 score. Ian Stogdell shot a 41 while Rellamas (43), Robby Wikoff (43), Fauria (50) and Hastert (52) all contributed.

Turlock didn’t come as close during a 204-223 Oakdale home win on March 9. Jones, Tripp and Stogdell each carded a 40 while Wikoff shot a 41 and Fauria a 43.
