wrestling1

A wrestler’s job is never done. Although some wrestlers just wrestle during the winter, many Oakdale wrestlers stay busy on the mats year round to keep up with their high standards. Oakdale High School’s wrestling program has been a powerhouse for well over a decade and it is due to their hard efforts on and off the mat. Seven of the team’s wrestlers will be joining in the fourth annual Gilroy Wrestling Midcals Elite Summer Camp. The three day camp opens on Friday, June 17 and concludes on Sunday, June 19 at Gilroy High School.

Oakdale’s Dustin Chavez, Ricky Torres, Gabe Martinez, Bronson Harmon, Brayden Abell, Ceasar Garza and Michael Torres all qualified for the camp by either winning a SCWAY Grade State Championship, being a 2015 Junior MidCal Champion or a SCWAY All-Star team member.

For those wrestlers looking to brush up on their skills, sign-ups are still being taken for the prestigious camp. The camp will be hosted by five NCAA wrestling elite coaches and wrestlers. Three time NCAA All-American, Big 10 Medalist and Assistant Coach at University of Minnesota Chris Dardanes; two time NCAA All-American and Assistant Coach at Cal Poly Scotti Sentes; All American and Big 10 Medalist University of Minnesota Assistant Coach Nick Dardanes; 2015 NHSCA Coach of the Year, four time high school state team champions and a state champion in his own right, Mike Powell, and finally University of Oklahoma Head Coach Mark Cody all will be there to help the young grapplers at the camp.
