Mustangs Advance To Masters

Oakdale High School senior Sara Stevens has qualified for Masters in multiple events as she took third place in the women’s 800 meters race at 2:18.32. Her quick speed at Bella Vista High School for Divisionals set not only a personal record, but put her second all-time in OHS history in the event. Stevens also anchored the girls 4x400 when she received the baton in fourth place and gained nearly 18 meters off the leader to finish in second place. The team of Stevens, Courtney Dickens, Kyla Novotny and Marnelle Salie qualified for Masters and etched their names in Oakdale High School history with a new time of 4:03.91.

Salie finished fifth in the 400 meters, setting a personal best at 1:00.17. Cassie England set a personal record in the 100 meter hurdles at 16.31 and finished fourth in the contest. Kyndall Vargas has qualified for Masters with her second place toss at 111-01 in discus. Deonna Osmundson set a season record for herself at 100-10 and finished sixth. Qualifying for Masters in the high jump were both Hannah Wessling and Cassie England as each tied for first place at 4-10. England also finished fifth in the triple jump.

The boys 4x100 relay team qualified for Masters when the foursome of Jacob Peterson, Francisco Vargas, Makai Harris and Josh Jacobson ran the fourth fastest time in school history at 4.28. Oakdale placed third on the day in the event. In the 800 meters Justin Crescenti placed sixth overall with his personal best record of 2:01.71. In the 110 meter hurdles Francisco Vargas finished fourth at 14.90. Michael Everett placed fourth in the shot put at 48-01.00.

Day one of the Masters is set for Thursday, May 25 at Elk Grove High School at 3 p.m. with the finals scheduled for Friday, May 26 also at Elk Grove High School at 3 p.m.
