The Lady Mustangs soccer team doubled up Lathrop 4-2 for a home win on Thursday, Feb. 1. The Valley Oak League victory came just two days after falling to Sierra 4-1 at home.

Oakdale (7-8-2, 3-6-2) returned home after playing five straight on the road on Jan. 30 and hosted first place Sierra (19-0-2, 10-0-1). The Lady Mustangs leaped out to a 1-0 lead when Kassy Rodriguez assisted Maddy Freitas in the first half. It was Rodriguez’s birthday as well. However in the second half, Sierra scored four unanswered goals to earn the road win.

The Lady Mustangs regrouped and defeated visiting Lathrop (4-10-2, 1-9-1) in front of the home crowd Thursday night. In the win, Freitas scored her second goal of the week. Talia Millard, Rodriguez and Alexandra Casillas also found the net. Having assists in the game were Millard with two and Krissy Lolonis and Rodriguez with one each.

Three games remain in the girls season; they were scheduled to hit the road Tuesday, Feb. 6 to take on the Weston Ranch Cougars (3-17-2, 0-10-1) following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale finishes the season with a pair of home games when they host Kimball (4-15-2, 3-6-1) on Thursday, Feb. 8 and wrap up the season on Tuesday, Feb. 13 against Central Catholic (7-8-2, 5-4-2). Both games are scheduled for a 6:45 p.m. start. Tuesday night’s home game will be Senior Night, with recognition for the team’s six seniors.
