Lady Mustangs Off To Strong Start

Under first year varsity head coach, Julie Ford, the Lady Mustang varsity girls basketball team is off to a 2-0 start to the 2015-2016 campaign.

The Lady Mustangs galloped to a 33-21 road win against Johansen on Tuesday, Dec. 1 and followed up with a nail biting, 23-22 road win over Summerville on Thursday evening.

Junior guard Madison Brewer led the way for the Lady Mustangs in their 12-point victory over Johansen as she totaled 15 points for the squad. The junior also got involved on the defensive side of things where she pulled down four rebounds. Senior Emery Sipe finished the night with five rebounds, three steals, two assists and added two points for Oakdale, to help the Lady Mustangs win in their season opener.

Oakdale followed up with the dramatic road win on Thursday night when the team took on the Lady Bears of Summerville. Oakdale jumped out to a 7-1 lead after the first quarter, and took a 13-8 lead into halftime. The Lady Bears outscored Oakdale 14-10 in the second half, but Oakdale held on for the one-point victory.

The Lady Mustangs continue their busy winter schedule as they are scheduled to host four straight games this week. The stretch began on Monday, Dec. 7 after The Leader’s sports press time, against Hughson and wrap up the four game home stand on Tuesday, Dec 15 against Hilmar. Sandwiched in between these games include a visit from Riverbank on Tuesday, Dec. 8 and Calaveras on Wednesday, Dec 9. Tipoff for these games is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The junior varsity girls are off to a 1-0 start after their convincing 39-18 road win over Johansen on Tuesday night, Dec 1. The girls return home for four straight home games. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

The youngest of the Lady Mustangs fell to Summerville on Thursday night, Dec. 3 in a 21-19 contest. Oakdale’s freshmen will host three home games as the girls welcome Hughson, Riverbank and Hilmar. Tipoff for each game is scheduled for 4 p.m.
