As the regular season for some of the spring sports are rapidly coming to a close, many teams are making playoff runs. Oakdale’s boys golf and both varsity boys and girls swim teams had an impressive week.

 

BOYS GOLF

Taking on Kimball at Tracy Golf and Country Club on Thursday, April 21 the Mustangs cruised to a 221-234 victory on the links. Sophomore David Myrtakis sat atop the leaderboard with a 40 stroke effort. Keeping pace with Myrtakis were teammates Calvin Reed (42); Greg Wikoff (43); and Zackary Tamburrino (44). Rounding out the scorecard for Oakdale were Tristian Jaramillo (52) and Logan Black (59). Oakdale finished the VOL season with a 10-3 record. The team will head to Saddle Creek in Copperopolis on Monday, May 2 for the VOL Tournament.

 

SWIMMING

A busy week for the swim teams as Oakdale welcomed Manteca and Central Catholic to the Aquatic Center in Oakdale on Tuesday, April 19. Oakdale’s varsity girls won 102-68 over Manteca and 128-21 over Central Catholic. Highlighting some of the girls varsity wins were; Annalise Vander Veen took first place in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:46.63. Emily Bennett took first place in the 50 yard freestyle in 26.98 and Kassidy Houck took first in the 100 yard backstroke in 1:10.63.

The boys won 90-80 over Manteca and 112-14 over Central Catholic. Jackson Metcalfe claimed first in the 50 yard freestyle IN 23.73, Rhett Harrison swam away with the 100 yard freestyle in 55.27. Caden Nord took first in the 500 yard freestyle in 5:36.78.

Oakdale’s week continued as they dominated Lathrop 131-51 in a varsity girls victory and the varsity boys earned a 116-36 win. Emma Magnussen took first in the 200 yard freestyle in 2:11.99, Clare McKeon just got past teammate Kassidy Houck in the 200 yard IM. McKeon won 2:34.35 with Houck coming in second with a time of 2:34.95. Jared Kahler earned first place by holding off teammates David Albertoni and Zach Hill in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.41. Albertoni was two seconds behind while Hill finished at 1:11.56.

Oakdale will host the 2016 Valley Oak League Championships on Saturday, April 30 with a scheduled start of 9 a.m.
