With the No. 5 ranked team in the state looming across Oakdale High’s home mat on Dec. 23, Mustang wrestlers knew they needed some significant upsets to stay unbeaten in dual action this season.
Junior Tyler Noon made the biggest step toward that goal with a stunning 5-4 upset of Gilroy senior Aaron Gonzalez at 138 pounds. Gonzalez, a returning state qualifier, is ranked No. 11 in the state. Noon’s third round takedown overcame a late deficit and set the table for an exciting Oakdale win.
