Gregory F. Moreno, Sr., 60, died Saturday, Oct. 5 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Bakersfield to Rachel and Gilbert Moreno.
He graduated from Foothill High School in 1971.
After graduation he served his country in the United States Air Force.
Mr. Moreno chose his career as a correctional officer for the State of California, where he proudly worked for 21 years.
He lived in Oakdale for 10 years and still had a number of friends and coworkers from the Oakdale and Sonora areas.
He was a proud father and devoted ‘Apa.’ His passions included traveling, talking on the phone, watching his hummingbirds, and spending time with family and friends. He never knew a stranger. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor, genuine smile, and contagious laugh.
His family thanks Oak Valley Hospital/Care Center, Dr. Chet Mahida and staff, Oakdale Kidney Center, and Alexander Cohen Hospice House for the compassionate care they showed the entire family.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Moreno; daughters, Susan Busby of Waterford, Angela Townsend of Strathmore, Julie Moreno of Modesto; son, Raymond Moreno of Porterville; mother, Rachel Moreno of Bakersfield; sisters, Susan Moreno of Santa Maria, Linda Delacruz of Bakersfield, Venita Villanueva of Oceanside; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory F Moreno, Jr.; father, Gilbert Moreno; brothers, Don Moreno, Ernie Villanueva; and sister, Cindy Lomas.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Calvary Baptist Church, 1768 N. Newcomb St., Porterville.
