You know the dog days of summer are upon us when the sweltering heat causes the ripest, juiciest watermelons to crack open in the hot summer sun. For the younger generation it is a wonderful treat to find a cool shady spot in the garden and eat the heart out of a huge ripe watermelon. Of course, the very best watermelons are grown in the back yards of Valley Home!

Even though Autumn is still a ways off it is important to remember our Fall Harvest Festival Biggest Pumpkin contest. Be sure your pumpkins are planted so they will grow huge and you can win this fun contest. More information in September.

Valley Home sends our best wishes on a speedy recovery to our good friend Lee Shearer of Knights Ferry. Lee is known fondly as Mr. Knights Ferry or many refer to him as the mayor of Knights Ferry. Lee is dedicated to keeping the history of the beautiful community of Knights Ferry alive. Lee you are a legend and your friends in Valley Home love and appreciate you so much. Feel better soon!

Please remember to call Tammie at 604-6942 or Judy at 847-6647 to get Prime Shine Car Wash tickets. All money will go towards fixing the well at St. John’s Lutheran Church. We all need to do our part to help our beautiful little church. The church with the sweetest sound on Sunday morning...the bells of St. John’s. St. John’s Lutheran Church is truly a landmark and the heart of Valley Home!

Michelle McKenzie shares with us all that the State of California, Department of Water Resources website has a great deal of public water data on its website. The website is water.ca.gov. From there, you can search for CASGEM (California Statewide Groundwater Elevation Monitoring Program) and its Water Data Library which contains recorded data from private wells that the State uses to monitor water levels. There is a great deal of data on this website. Additionally, on this website, you can print the form you need to obtain the Well Completion Report pertaining to your own property to determine the depth of your original well. You will need your Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN) and a plot map indicating the Township, Range, and Section in which your property is located. The APN is on your property tax bill and the plot map can likely be obtained on the County Assessor’s websites.
