The blessings of family ... As with most of you, on Easter we gathered with our families. For most it was a day of bright colorful egg hunts and visits with those we hold dear. For my family the holiday held many blessings. Strong family ties, including friends that care and share those family ties. Although this Easter had some bittersweet moments throughout the day, those family ties were strong and together we enjoyed a truly blessed Easter Day.

This past Monday our nephew T.J. Keaster came out and began grafting our fruit trees. A sure sign of a wonderful spring to come! T.J. learned the skills of grafting from his uncles Ed and Dave Keaster and uncle John Solari. Over the years he has researched, studied and gained much knowledge on the art of grafting. We are grateful to be the recipients of our nephews amazing skills.

Staying on the subject of special family members, grandson Cody Bartholomew is learning much from cousin Jack Keaster! Jack is busy cutting a 300 tree almond orchard and is teaching Cody that hard work and commitment is the footprint for a successful tomorrow. We are thankful again for those strong family ties.

Last Thursday our Valley Home School held its 2016 Ag Day! The day was filled with learning experiences and hands on projects. The entire school gathered in front of the flag pole to start the day. Eighth graders Marissa Hicks and Tio Diaz raised the flag with Mrs. Rathbun’s kindergarten class leading the pledge of allegiance for the whole school. During the day Oakdale High and Escalon High Ag students shared their knowledge and skills with our Valley Home students. The students were excited to have the Ag students teach them for the day. A very special part of the day was when third grade teacher Linda Alcorn’s family nursery provided and helped each student transplant two tomato plants each! It was a wonderful learning day for our Valley Home students. We offer a tremendous thank you to the Oakdale High and Escalon High students and advisors, and to Ms. Alcorn’s family nursery!
