Valley Home

Sad news in Valley Home with the passing of a most caring man, Mr. Harold Pope. Mr. Pope left this world to be with the angels on October 31st. He was fondly known as the teacher/principal who gave his all to Valley Home. His wonderful life was blessed with daughters Sandy Mercer, Barbara Aker and son Keith Pope and the late Cheryl Hayes. He was a devoted grandfather to eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

He was very highly respected, with the school on Texas Avenue campus bearing his name “Harold Pope Elementary School.” He was a dedicated coach to many and earned countless accolades throughout this lifetime. He was very proud and humbled to have the “Harold Pope California Jr. Relays” named in his honor. A lifetime of love and dedication to the youth of Valley Home and surrounding areas, he will always be special to the Valley Home community!

A visitation will be held on November 10th from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel, Escalon, Ca with a memorial service on Saturday, November 12th at Modesto Covenant Church at 2 p.m. All are welcome.

This week we have a guest columnist ... Ms. Callie Chrisman writing for the Valley Home News.

Callie Chrisman spent some “traditional” time with her family recently pushing the brush to see if they could come home with a nice buck in the X-4 zone in the Modoc area in Susanville, CA. Although Callie, Mom and Dad did not harvest a buck this year, they had some awesome quality time taking note of all the beauty around them. Hunting is a big part of the Chrisman family, Callie is sharpening her skills in bow hunting, while Mom and Dad still prefer rifle hunting. The time around the campfire, telling stories and roasting marshmallows makes for some of the best memories ever! Callie currently is in the Valley Home 4-H Archery Club where she holds first place in her division. She encourages other 4-Her’s to join up and have some fun! The next meeting for Archery is November 19th at 2 p.m. at the Weaver’s!
