This coming Monday there will be a very important meeting at our Valley Home fire station. Please come and be part of the discussion. It is important to come together and discuss our need for 24-hour coverage in all stations. We need to discuss how we can best meet this challenge. For those of us living in these areas, Valley Home, Knights Ferry, East Oakdale, and the area in northernmost Stanislaus County, we need to attend this meeting! Our lives and our children and grandchildren are protected by the Oakdale Fire District. None of us like to raise taxes but our families’ lives are at stake! The few extra dollars per year that a special tax would bring in could ultimately save one of our family members’ lives or it could be our life that they come to save. Believe me, to pay a few more dollars a year to ensure someone will come when we call is priceless. Three years ago, I unexpectedly had to make that call ... working in the garden, talking and laughing, the next minute sheer panic, my healthy, hardworking husband had a massive heart attack. I could never express the gratitude my family has for those who came so quickly that day to try to help my husband, Richard.

Many years ago, my husband and I worked very hard, alongside the folks from Knights Ferry to pass a measure that would support our Rural Fire District. At the time, I had no idea that one day it would be our family that would have to make that desperate call. I wish none of you ever have to make that call, but reality tells us that is always a real possibility. Let’s come together this Monday, October 7 and have this discussion! The meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. at our Valley Home fire station, 13200Valley Home Road. This is a very important meeting, your opinion and your thoughts are important. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
