Western Day Event Gives Nod To Heritage

The second annual Western Day and Chili Cook Off, hosted by the Oakdale Tourism and Visitors Bureau, OTVB, is scheduled for this Saturday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds on East F Street.

Enjoy craft and food vendors, live music, comedy and there will be gun-slinging as well, as the OTVB highlights the city’s Western heritage and celebrates its standing as the ‘Cowboy Capital’ of the world. Also planned are a Kids Korral with a number of activities for kids and attendees will be the judge of who takes the top prize at the International Chili Society and the Community Chili Cook Offs.

OTVB Business Manager Pam Dumas also noted that producers from the Sunday primetime show, Bay Area Life, are scheduled to be filming in and around Oakdale and Knights Ferry on Saturday, Oct. 14. Among the events they expect to cover are the new community park and skatepark, the covered bridge in Knights Ferry, a Cowdog Challenge scheduled at the Rodeo Grounds and more. No air date for the show has been announced as yet.

“Our ‘Find Your Country’ brochures are creating quite the buzz with more than 200 sent out this last quarter, all over the country, Canada, England and India,” Dumas added.
