Oakdale Girls Finish Second At Divisionals

The 2018 CIF Sac-Joaquin Division III track and field competition was held over the weekend at Folsom’s Vista del Lago High School. Oakdale’s girls finished the meet in second place with a team score of 90 points and finished behind the host school, which scored 114.5. Helping the Lady Mustangs to success were numerous athletes.

Senior Cassie England placed first in the 100 meter hurdles, second in the high jump and third in the triple jump. Sophomore Kayden Legan earned a first place finish in the 3200 meter race where she finished with a time of 11:14.98. Oakdale dominated the throws competition as Angelica Lowry placed first in shot put with a throw of 37 feet and six inches. Freshman Emma Harper came in second and sophomore Hallie Morton placed third. Harper finished first in the discus with a throw of 130 feet and one inch, while Jessica Jericoff and Valerie Osborne finished second and third respectively. Kyndall Green set a personal record in pole vault with a 10 foot and two inch clearance. Green placed second in the meet.

For the boys team, Oakdale placed sixth overall with 36 total team points. Senior Josh Jacobson competed in multiple events over the weekend. Jacobson placed seventh in the 100 meter race and ninth in the 200. His biggest contribution came in the 4x100 meter race where he and his teammates placed third. Along with Jay Hummer, Zeke Saffar and senior Hunter Falconi, they finished the relay less than one second behind the first place team. Falconi competed in the high jump and finished eighth. Justin Carlos placed third overall in pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet, 11 inches.

In throws Jorge Barajas placed second in both discus and shot put. He set a personal record in discus at 140 feet and three inches. Cameron Burke placed fourth overall in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 40.49, a personal record. Senior James Forkner also set a personal record when he ran the 3200 meters in 10:17.69.

On Thursday, May 24 Oakdale will compete in the Masters at Elk Grove High School. The meet is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will continue on Friday, May 25 for the finals.
